Kiva - Loans that change lives
www.kiva.org As part of our next unit, we inquire into what it takes to start a business. Students will create their own mini business and will sell their products at Market Day. All profits will then be directed into our Keva account. What is Kiva? Kiva provides small loans to less well off people in developing countries so they can start up their own small business and thus improve their lives. These loans are paid back to Kiva over a period of time, and the money is then lent to other people. For more information, see the above web site. Have a safe and fun holiday everyone.

Boys Girls Brigade Camp, Sembawang. Cost $280. Parent meeting October 25th 2.45 Students have been given a note with more details on it today (UN Day, 4th Oct) Please make sure this gets to parents. Dear Parents/Guardians,
Starting from October, all Grade 5 students will be learning to play the Ocarina in their music lessons. It is a great instrument to play and students will be able to explore and master different notes/melodies and simple songs. An ocarina will be lent out to every child starting from this week. (Each ocarina has a number written on it so that the ocarinas will not get muddled up in class or at home.) However, all students will need to return the ocarina to the school by the end of this December. (Please note that a replacement fee will be charged, if the ocarina is not returned or if a student leaves early without returning the instrument) All students will need to bring their ocarina and their sheet music to each weekly music class. If a students forgets to bring their instrument, they will not be able to join in properly with the music class and this can lead them to fall behind schedule. Music Lesson Schedule is as follows: 5PS and 5DC Fridays 5SB Wednesdays If you wish to purchase your son/daughter an ocarina, please can you ensure that you choose the same model that is supplied in class. (There are many different keys/pitches and different number of holes.) We have used the company STL Ocarina based in Australia. Please see website: http://stlocarina.com/pl3.html.) We are using a C lower pitch large plastic ocarina. It has a more gentle sound and can easily be cleaned/disinfected by the school.
